Getting the most out of your GAP YEAR…

If you are looking for some time out prior to starting university or work then a GAP program with us is an invaluable experience.
Our most popular GAP Year programs are our Instructor Internship Programs. Not only do you get a chance to complete a range of certifications but you also get a guaranteed job as a ski or snowboard instructor at a top mountain resort - so you can put these skills to use!

This is a great way to boost your resume, gain awesome experience and skills and get paid for having the time of your life!

If you are looking for a full GAP Year experience then consider taking part in our South America Free Ride and Adventure Program. This commences in August and gives you an opportunity to explore some of the best mountain resorts in South America. The program also includes an action packed weekend in Buenos Aires and a Beach Camp week in Brazil!

7 hot tips for planning your GAP Year...

Through talking with those coming through our programs we have put together the following advice…

1. When working abroad ensure your job is organised before leaving home!
2. Be sure you know where you are going - research the location
3. Talk to others who have done the GAP Program you are looking at
4. Ensure you know all about the type of visa you will be travelling on and what it allows you to do
5. Experience is everything, get a reference from your employer before you leave!
6. Obtain proof of your new skills and competence through recognised certifications
7. Ensure you take out the right Travel Insurance Policy and make copies of important documents before leaving home

 

Funding your GAP Year

Saving & Working

While a GAP Year can be a fantastic experience it can also be expensive! Many candidates that sign up to our programs have spent school or university holidays working and saving. It is often said that the more effort you put in the more reward you will get back. The earlier you can start planning and saving for a GAP Year the better!

Earn money during the season!

For those of you who are keen to do a ski season but unsure how you are going to afford to survive, our Instructor Internship Programs could be the answer. A full time job as an instructor is guaranteed before you leave home, so that once the early season training is finished you are earning US dollars straight away to pay for living costs and trips away, and / or to pay off any loans you had to take out to get over there (thanks Grandma!)

Bank Loan

If you are 18 years of age a bank loan may be an option to supplement your personal savings and get you underway for a GAP Year. During our United States Instructor Internship Programs you will have an opportunity to work and earn some good money. If you are willing to work hard and not live too extravagantly you should be able to put a portion of your weekly income towards repaying any supplementary loans!

Career Development Loan (United Kingdom residents only).
